Hair Restoration Q & A

What are the signs that I may be losing my hair?

There are a few different symptoms of hair loss to look for. Thinning hair can look different in men and women.

In men, hair usually starts thinning on the forehead at the hairline, often forming an "M" shape. In women, a receding hairline is unusual, but a steadily widening line when parting hair is common. Women may also notice that a ponytail feels thinner.

Another less common sign that you’re losing your hair is round patches of missing hair appear on the back of your scalp, or sometimes in other areas. The patches can be quite small, so they may be hard to see initially.

Both men and women might notice more hair in the sink drains, or you might notice that your hairbrush needs to be cleaned more frequently because it’s filling with hair faster.

Usually, men and women suffering from thinning hair or bald patches are great candidates for hair restoration procedures at Utopia Med Spa.

What causes hair loss?

It’s normal to lose approximately 100 hairs daily, but if your hair is shedding faster, one of the following causes is likely.

Male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness are hereditary. It’s common to develop this condition in middle age or later if your parents or other close relatives suffered from hair loss.

Hormones, whether it’s hormone surges or depletion, can trigger hair loss in many situations. Hormone changes during menopause and pregnancy are often the culprit behind hair loss in women, and thyroid disease sufferers may suffer hair loss unless their thyroid hormones are stabilized.

Certain medications, including drugs prescribed for hypertension, heart disease, and cancer, may have a side effect of hair loss.

There are other reasons for hair loss, as well. Radiation therapy, sudden traumatic events, and overprocessing of hair are some other potential causes of hair loss in both men and women.

Your Utopia Med Spa care providers will work with you to determine the causes of your hair loss so an ideal hair restoration treatment can be found.

What is the process of hair restoration?

Utopia Med Spa offers nonsurgical hair restoration through microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling with PRP effectively rejuvenates inactive hair follicles so you can grow new hair.
